On June 15th, SLC club members returned to the Black Mountain Open Space park for another restoration event with the Friends of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve (FLPCP) organization.
The volunteers started by taking a walk to their site on the Awhee Trail to check on the plants. Though the black mustard population there has been growing steadily, the volunteers will focus on removing these weeds in future events. Later, the volunteers returned to the main site, watering plants along the road on the way there. After the day’s water supply was depleted, the volunteers ended the day by weeding around the plants in the site.
Though very hot, the day’s work was very rewarding and the volunteers look forward to returning to the site soon. The volunteers will be hosting another fundraiser to raise money for future plants tomorrow, 6/16, so stay tuned for updates in the next article!
