With the beginning of summer, on June 1st, SLC club members returned to the Black Mountain Open Space park for another restoration event with the Friends of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve (FLPCP) organization. Despite the extensive weeding done by volunteers in April, the black mustard population was still growing in the area, especially surrounding the Awhee Trail. After watering the native species in that area, SLC members walked down to the main site to help with watering and weeding there.
Prior to the event, some SLC volunteers had also gathered to record segments of a video on the Student Leadership Club and their involvement in the restoration work at Black Mountain! Stay tuned for the results of this exciting project!
