This past weekend, the hard work of student volunteers at Student Leadership Club (SLC) was realized as we hosted our annual Secrets to Top Colleges seminar. This seminar featured five panelists of graduating seniors in the Class of 2026 from various schools, including Canyon Crest Academy, Del Norte High School, and the Bishop’s School, who were admitted to top UCs and Ivy League schools. Presenting to almost 100 attendees, consisting of both parents and students, these panelists shared their experiences throughout high school and the college application process.
The panelists answered questions regarding extracurriculars, academics, college selection, and the application process itself. One panelist from Canyon Crest Academy emphasized that starting the essay process early in the summer alleviated a massive amount of senior-year stress. After the event, it was clear that parents and students alike were much less anxious, highlighting an important effect of these seminars: it gives families clarity and direction in their next steps towards college. SLC hopes to continue these events year after year as we further our mission to give back to the community through student-organized programs.
